INTRODUCTION
“Bugyal” means “high mountain meadow” in the native language. The meadow stretches far and wide. The panoramic view of the Himalayas from here is impressive. Located at an altitude of approximately 3656 m, Dayara Bugyal, and Bedni Bugyal are among the largest and best-known grasslands of the Garhwal Himalayas. The hike leads through open sections and dense forests at various points.
In winter, all meadows are covered with snow and look beautiful. The panoramic view of Banderpunch and the Gangotri Mountains from this meadow is simply heavenly. The meadow also supports a rich variety of flowers. Our country’s most beautifully landscaped prairie
Dayara Bugyal is a popular hike among our experienced Indiahikes trekkers.
The forests are magnificent in spring, the meadows unbeatably green in summer and orange in autumn, with an impressive mountain view. The snowy landscape in winter is a world of its own.
We have a thing for meadows on this hike, which is perfect. With the majestic Gangotri mountain range as a backdrop, the rewards are disproportionate to the effort you put in,” says Sandhya. Unsurprisingly, it’s also popular with beginners.
From Dayara you can see the Great Himalayas in all their beauty. The majestic peaks of the Gangotri range including Bandarpunch, Kala Nag, Srikanth, Jaonli, and Draupadi Ka Danda are so close you can almost touch them. Hikers spend hours watching the sunset over these mountains.
The meadow is famous for its alpine flowers, which bloom in a blaze of color in summer. The most common flowers include Himalayan poppies, daisies, and primroses.
The oak and rhododendron forests surrounding the meadow contrast with the snow-capped mountains. The trek is home to several bird species including the Himalayan monal, the state bird of Uttarakhand.

BUYGAL TREK DEGREE OF DIFFICULTY
Dayara Bugyal is a perfect trek for beginners, it can even be considered a pre-trekking to get used to the rigors of high-altitude trekking. Almost like an appetizer. It doesn’t have any difficult sections, but a few sections on the hike can be challenging. Of the high-altitude hikes on our list (hikes that exceed 11,000 feet), Dayara Bugyal poses the least risk.
That’s why it’s a hike we recommend for many beginners, families, and even latecomers.
The only two challenges you have to face on the trek are these sections:
1. From base camp to the forest: This first 1km section is steep. And while there is a trail well laid out, this section will test your resistance.
2. Climb to the top of Dayara: The last climb to the top of Dayara is also steep. And in winter it gets demanding in the snow. When you leave your summit camp early in the morning, the snow is hard as it froze overnight. This stretch of snow continues until you reach the summit and gets steeper as you get closer to the summit.
BEST TIME TO GO TO
Summers are hot on the Dayara Bugyal Trek. Imagine bright green meadows roasting in the sunlight.
There’s also an unmistakable summer scent in the air, especially when you’re walking in the shade of oak and maple trees.
The atmosphere will also become hazy as there is a lot of dust and pollen in the air at this time. So, you might not get as sharp looks as in autumn. But on a clear day, you will see the snow-capped mountains in their glory.
There is another silver lining to the Dayara Bugyal Trek. Without the challenges of cold or snow, this hike is easier in summer. And so, during this period, we opened the Dayara Bugyal Trek family properties. It’s a good time to introduce children to the Himalayas.
