Step 1: Draw A Cartoon Vulture

For this first step of our guide on how to draw a cartoon vulture, we will begin with the beak of the bird. This will be drawn using lots of curved and rounded lines. You’ll want to closely follow the reference image here, as there are some rather specific shapes for each section of the beak! It also ends in a pointy tip at both the top and bottom sections of the beak.

There will also be curved lines extending off of the top, as shown in our example. These will form the start of the head, which we will add to in the next steps.

Step 2: Draw the eye and neck

This second step of your cartoon vulture drawing will have you adding more of the head, face, and neck. First, use some more curved lines to finish off the rounded back of the head. We will then draw the eye of the vulture. This will be drawn as a round shape that has some oval shapes within it. We will also add some small, curved eyelashes coming off of the eye outline.
Finally, extend some longer curved lines coming down from the base of the beak for the thin neck of the bird.

Step 3: Add the base of the neck and start the body

There is a sort of feathery ‘collar’ at the base of a vulture’s neck, and that is what we will draw in this step. We will also start drawing the body, but first, let’s draw that collar. The collar is drawn using some smaller, rounded lines that connect as we show in the reference image. Then, use some more wavy lines coming down from the collar for the start of the body.

Step 4: Now draw the wing of the vulture

A vulture won’t get far without wings, so we will add that aspect in this step of our guide on how to draw a cartoon vulture! The wing will have some rounded lines for the outline, and there will be rows of smaller round lines for the feathery textures on it. We will also add some more curved lines for the rest of the body and the start of the legs, and we will finish off the legs in the next step!

Step 5: Draw the rest of the legs

It’s time to finish the rest of the legs for this cartoon vulture drawing before we add the final touches in the next step. Draw some thin, curved shapes for the toes of the vulture and then add some lines across them for some texture. Finally, draw some more thin shapes for the tail feathers, and then we are ready for step 6!

Step 6: Now, add the final touches

We won’t be drawing the bird itself in this step of our guide on how to draw a cartoon vulture! Instead, we will finish it off with the branch it is sitting on, and this will have you ready for some coloring fun in the next step. To draw this branch, we used some slightly wavy lines for the outline, and then we added some similarly wavy lines inside for the wood texture.

Once this branch is drawn, you are ready for some final details of your own! It’s always fun to design a background, as this can take it to the next level. There are many settings you could design for this cute vulture, so what kind of background would you go for?

Step 7: Finish off your drawing with some color

This cartoon vulture drawing is already looking so great, but we will make it look even better with some colors in this final step! In our reference image, you’ll notice that we kept the colors looking more realistic despite the cartoonish style of the drawing. That means we used some yellows for the beak, pinks for the skin, and then shades of browns for the feathers.

These colors are there to guide you if you would like to go for a similar approach, but you could also go for unique colors if you prefer! This is your chance to take over and show off what you can do with your color creativity, so let loose and see what happens! You could also try out some art mediums you don’t typically use for a unique look to your colors.
