What’s No Objection Certificate?
A no objection certificate is, as its name implies, a document where an individual or other legal entity declares that they have no objection to any activity or proceeding. This is similar to a waiver, but it is often used for commercial purposes.
The NOC is not addressed to one person, but it is addressed to “whoever it may concern”, which is a general declaration. The NOC doesn’t need to be signed on stamp paper. However, it is recommended to have it witnessed and notarised. A NOC letter format can be used as evidence in court. If it is properly witnessed and notarised, it cannot be challenged.
A NOC is a legal document that allows an individual, company or bank to do/execute something. A NOC can be presented in court to prove your innocence and help you avoid legal trouble. A NOC is valid for six month after it has been issued.
When can a No Objection Certificate (NOC) be issued?
The circumstances under which a NOC certificate can be issued may vary depending on where it is used. A NOC is required in India for the issuance of licenses, visas or permits to certain activities. This includes acquiring property, starting businesses, and transferring vehicle ownership. Other countries may require NOCs for activities such installing or operating commercial or industrial facilities, or for cultural and sporting events.
Not a guarantee or endorsement, a NOC is merely a statement that an entity has no objections or approvals to the action or decision being proposed.

No-Objection Certificate (NOC) for Business Registration
This is very common for start-ups who often open their businesses from their home. You will need a No Objection Certificate (NOC), if you want to use your registered address to start a business. If you live on rent, it could be your family member or the landlord.
This is common as the registered address does not always correspond to the business location. It’s a place for correspondence only. It is much easier to open a business with this arrangement than the alternative, where you would first need to purchase a space.
No-Objection Certificate (NOC) for Business Registration
Individuals may decide to bring their car with them when they move. If you’re only moving for a short time, or for a shorter period than three months, there’s no need to reregister your vehicle. If you’re moving for more than one year, however, the vehicle must be reregistered at the local RTO. This involves obtaining a NOC (No Objection Certificate) from the RTO where your vehicle is registered. This NOC will declare that the vehicle is free from traffic violations or dues. This is the process:
To submit the No Objection Certificate Application, the applicant for NOC must visit the nearest RTO.
The RTO receives a police report on the traffic offenses and violations against the vehicle after the application has been submitted.
If there are no pending issues, the clearance receipt is submitted and the NOC issued.
The RTO will issue the No Objection Certificate within three business days after the application for a No objection certificate has been approved.
Here is a list of documents you need to submit with your No Objection Certificate Application:
- Registration certificate
- Certificate of insurance
- Permit certificate
- PUC (Pollution under control) certificate
- You must submit a proof of address and identity for the vehicle owner.
- No Objection Certificate (NOC) for Banking Purposes
If a person takes out a loan to pay for personal reasons, such as a car loan or home loan, a bank must issue a No Objection Certificate (NOC) stating that all dues have now been paid. This certificate is used in place of an invoice or receipt when payment is made.
To complete the loan closing formalities, a NOC must be obtained from the bank. A legal document certifying that the borrower has settled all outstanding loan debts and paid all EMIs.
Building Construction
Before you begin any construction, it is necessary to get a NOC from all authorities. A NOC must be obtained from the fire department for high-rise buildings and apartments. The chief fire officer issues the NOC after the building plan has been reviewed and approved by the construction sanctioning authority.
Road Tax Refund
You can apply for a refund of the first road tax you paid towards your vehicle’s registration. Each state has a different deadline for applying for a refund. It can be initiated as soon as you receive your NOC. A refund is only available to the original or initial owner of the vehicle. For more information about refunds, consult the rules of your local RTO.
